What's with all the old, archived threads and characters?
This is actually a revival of an older Role-play site. The first version enjoyed several months of RP before I had to leave, and the site went quiet after I left. Now that I'm back and ready to run things again, hopefully the site can pick up where it left off--five IC years later, anyway.
You've got a lot of clutchers available! Aren't you going to be overloaded with shiny-hunters and eggs?
Possibly, but I'm open to adjusting the numbers in the future if needed. I also do not expect to always have candidates for all the viable eggs, putting aside the large number of eggs that will be duds. Some hatchlings will be adoptables for people who join after the hatching or who missed the hatching for one reason or another; in larger clutches, a fraction of the clutch will be NPC'd regardless of the number of candidates. The dragon population is, after all, much larger than the proportion played by people. In addition to that, the threat of overpopulation is built into some of the plots; there'll be methods to deal with that too, although Threadfall will play a role as well.
As for shiny-hunters, I believe it is a problem that will fix itself fairly quickly. If they do not pull their weight by being active and getting things done on time, the dragon will be taken away. No clutching dragon has the same sort of in-character rank or ability at Alietran as a queen, and even if golds do appear at some later point, their Impression will be handled as carefully as any other clutcher, and by that point, queenrider will not automatically equal rank and power.
Do you do sexuality-based Impressions?
No. Never. Sexuality isn't even required on the form; it has no effect. While there are some vague stereotypes floating around, they tend to be taken more seriously in the Holds and ignored within the Weyrs themselves, as they have an ample supply of examples to the contrary. While Impressions are loosely based on gender (not sex), any color is capable of cross-gender Impression, including golds and bronzes.
How closely do you stick to canon?
Not that closely. I would label Alietran a semi-canon Weyr. Not only do we have a host of new colors in dragons and fire lizards, we are explicitly set in an alternate universe from the timeline of the books. The majority of the events of the ninth pass never happened and Thread still falls on schedule. Southern Weyr and Hold were still founded on time, though, and the rest of the Southern Continent has been populated. There have been a few other white dragons in addition to Ruth, though they are vanishingly rare. I don't hold to sexuality or gender-based Impressions and mating flights are less overpowering and potentially traumatizing than in canon. You can check out the information in the Flight and Hatching Rules for more information on that.
Can I have my purple clutch and fly in the Queens' wing?
Sorry, the insistence on firestone is a colorwide trait, and not one that's ever likely to be excepted. They'd be absolutely miserable sitting on a clutch anyway; no maternal instinct at all.
I just want to have one clutch with my green/grey before she chews firestone, is that allowed?
No. The training for firestone-chewers versus flamethrower-users is quite different and starts well before the dragons start mating. There would be no advantage to allowing a single clutch and then switching their training, the pair would just be further behind in their training than everyone else and one clutch of eggs would not even add enough dragons to be worth the effort.
It may be possible in the future to allow an option for female weyrlings to rise early and clutch by accident. This would be treated as a prize and one sparsely given out. I won't guaruntee anything at this point.
Will there be whers here?
At the moment, no. I don't have any plots for them planned, and anyway, I know my personal version of whers is quite different from the talking-in-third-person and speaking-in-broken-English whers that most of the fandom seems to enjoy.
