In the end, the actual event was both better and worse than Jrolann had feared it would be. She'd almost spilled her drink all over herself when Marquitth had called name in near-panic, but she'd gotten the green talked down to something resembling calm by the time they'd entered the Hatching Sands.
The actual clutching had passed quickly, egg after egg making its appearance as nature took its course. Marquitth fussed between each, unused to this new activity, but it didn't take long before the green was joining her rider in inspecting Alietran's newest clutch.
Jrolann had to admit it didn't look like much compared to some of the brilliantly-colored eggs that had been in Wapitith's clutch, but so long as the dragonets hatched healthy, she didn't think anyone would mind.
That was... interesting. Marquitth said reflectively, experimentally nosing an egg. It rolled slightly and the green took a quick step back in surprise. So what do I do now? She appealed to her riding plaintively.
"The same thing we'll do every day until they hatch." Jrolann informed her, trying not to sound daunted at the prospect. "Tend them. Oh- and let the rest of the Weyr know about them." She added, as an afterthought.
The Just So Stories Clutch
1. Tell Me Why Egg
This egg wins no prizes for its beauty, being an unexceptional plain gray all over. It does have one black blotch near the top, but either Marquitth or the egg itself conspires to keep the this mark rolled away from view. Though the egg is possibly the dullest-looking of the clutch, those willing to lay hand to its shell are seized by an insatiable curiosity- as though the hatchling inside were determined to know everything about its surroundings from the start.
2. Writing on the Wall Egg
This egg is a plain white that, if not for its gray sibling, might vie for the title of 'least attractive egg of the clutch'. It does have one interesting mark, however- a solid black vertical line with a gray triangle attached at the top. The egg radiates a friendly sense of purpose, but sometimes flares with frustrated impatience. Maybe its rider will know what it is looking for.
3. New Lessons Egg
This egg is a greyish-green, capped with a design of brown hexagons covering its top half. The egg feels rough to the touch and rarely responses to touches, only giving of the occasional sense of placid contentment- perhaps it knows more than it's telling?
4. Can You See Me Now? Egg
This is the biggest egg of the clutch. Half of its surface is mottled top to bottom with streaks of yellowish-greyish-brown so as to resemble a grassy field. Its other half is a deep green, with streaks and spots of black. The eggs conveys a sense of fierce energy and practicly purrs with delight when touched.
5. Sands of Time Egg
This egg might go overlooked by all but the sharpest-eyed of candidates upon first glance. Its grainy brown surface blends in almost perfectly with the rest of the Hatching Sands. The egg gives off a sense of indifference to the world around it, when anything can be perceived at all.
