Rules for Flights and Hatchings

1. The owner of the female runs the flight and chooses the winner. Force-catching (a male catching a female dragon against her will) will NOT be allowed here. Aside from the fact that I don't care to have rapey scenes on my site, it should be obvious that such a scenario would not end well, considering we're dealing with a species who are known for going between, often fatally, when frightened...
2. Clutching greens or other clutching colors must have their flight approved before they start it. Few clutchers rise more than once a turn, but if they do, only one flight at most will result in a clutch. You must also be active in the month leading up to the flight and clutch if you want the dragon to clutch.
3. For the moment, each player is allowed to have one clutching female at a time. (This does not include fire lizards.) This may change depending on the ratio of players to clutchers needed. Hopefully we won't have so few players that the rule needs changing! Opportunities to create adult clutchers will be limited; most clutching dragons will be Impressed on-screen. Any green or grey can become a clutcher; prior to firestone training, the leading weyrwoman will collect a list of weyrlings who have volunteered to join the Rising Tides Wing and decide which, if any, she will approve. You are always free to request firestone exemption, but I reserve the right to decline it. Present Weyr needs and recent player activity will both play a role in whether or not the request is accepted.
4. The owner of the mother is allowed to design the dragonets and run the hatching if they wish. If they do not wish, I can take over the running of it myself, or even let another player have a shot at running a hatching. If you are hesitant to Impress a clutching dragon for fear of being overwhelmed with hatchings, I'd encourage you to consider allowing other members who don't have clutchers to take over. There will be a method in place to decide how the Hatching is handled, probably a raffle draw of some sort or a prize, it won't just be first-come, first-serve. When it comes to hatchings, the clutch-runner can suggest clutch size and color spread, but it may require tweaking. They will also have some input on matching babies to candidates, but the final decision lies with me.
5. Candidates must be played in at least one RP thread before the start of the hatching. This can be a lesson thread or a regular thread, as long as I can get a sense of their personality. Lessons are not mandatory, but are meant as an aide to RPing and introducing candidates and weyrlings to each other. The candidate also has to have been played in the two weeks before the hatching if they want to Impress, so we know you're still active with them. They generally won't Impress until they have at least one post in the hatching thread itself, but this rule can be bent if you've posted a notice that you'll be gone during that time.
6. Candidates may be mauled at hatchings; this will not happen without your permission, that's why there's a section on the candidate form for it.
7. If you are running the clutch, your candidate is not allowed to Impress in that same clutch.
8. Most dragons tend to favor candidates of their own gender to Impress to, but cross-gender Impressions are not uncommon, particularly among the more common colors. Sexuality is not linked to Impression, and there are a multitude of ways the weyrfolk deal with flightsex, including one-night-stands, substitutions, private flights away from the Weyr if the rider has enough forewarning, or just barring the door. As closely attuned to their riders as dragons are, they will not rise or chase if the rider is not ready, mentally or physically.
9. Candidates are paired mostly based on personality, taking into account the preferences listed on the candidate form. I'll try my best to give you a dragon you'll enjoy playing, but no Impressions are guaranteed, and the more restrictive your preferences, the less likely your candidate will be to Impress. I will not guarantee that your candidate will Impress or Impress well if you request only non-grey/green clutchers, etc., but if something is an absolute dealbreaker for you, make sure it's on your form. That said, I can make mistakes; if you honestly feel that the dragon you have been given would never have Impressed your character and you don't feel you can play it, PM me and we may be able to work something out. Do at least try to give it a chance, though; you may find that things work out better than you think.
10. Candidates and weyrlings are discouraged from having intimate relationships until their dragon is fully grown, and a pregnant woman is automatically barred from Impression. This is because it is thought that such activities would put too much stress on the young dragons and cause them to go between.
